Simon Elam, Director of the Smart Energy Research Lab, presented as part of the Wales Tech Week on 21st June.

The online festival, held from 21-25th June brought together a set of workshops and keynotes looking at how technology is impacting many different aspects of our lives.

Elam participated in a panel discussion as part of a session entitled ‘Smart Energy GB: Harnessing smart meter data for independent lives’ which looked at how energy data can be used to help people with health vulnerabilities have more autonomy in their lives. The talk follows on from SERL’s involvement in the ‘Smart Future of Healthcare’ report released in November 2020 which also looked at ways technology could be used for telehealth solutions, assisted living and population level screening and research. Healthcare is one of a number of important areas where smart meter data can potentially be harnessed to bring about improvements in peoples’ daily lives.

The event was hosted by Technology Connected.
