A new ‘explainer’ has been published as part of UCL’s Bartlett Faculty ‘Together for climate action’ campaign, which features the work of SERL.

Entitled ‘Smart Energy, smart buildings, smart health’ the piece looks at the many different factors at play in reducing energy use in buildings and thus reducing CO2 emissions. Data can potentially play a big part in this. It helps us to understand in much better detail how energy is being used, where is it being wasted and what action can be taken to make buildings more efficient. This must be done of course with the informed consent of the people sharing their data.

The piece also looks at the potential health benefits to be derived from having a more detailed picture of domestic energy use, and gives an overview of how Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning come into the equation.

The ‘Together for climate action’ campaign is being run by UCL’s Bartlett Faculty in the leadup to the COP26 UN Climate Summit in November 2021 in Glasgow.  The campaign aims to utilise the Bartlett’s expertise in many crucial areas around climate change to highlight how people can take action to create change.
