SERL’s Professor David Shipworth has contributed to a new research briefing produced by the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST). Entitled ‘Energy sector digitalisation’. The briefing – or ‘POSTnote’ – was published on 16th September.

The document aims to summarise the key digital technologies that can have a bearing on transforming the current energy system. It also looks at the crucial role of data in using these technologies to improve generation, transmission, trading and regulation of the energy sector. The pros and cons of these technologies and potential barriers to implementation are also explored.

Professor Shipworth – who is also a member of the CREDS and EnergyRev research teams – joined interviewees from academia, the public sector and government to contribute to the POSTnote, authored by POST team members Jonathan Wentworth, Lorna Christie, Lydia Harriss and Rodosthenis Charalampous.

POST’s remit is to produce impartial and peer-reviewed briefings aimed at making scientific research accessible to the UK Parliament. Using our research and data to inform policymaking is also a key aim of SERL.
